NVQ Teaching ApprenticeshipsIn addition to the important role that teachers play in learning in schools, Support Staff also contribute a great deal to the Nation’s classrooms. The apprenticeship is a great stepping-stone to a foundation degree. Teaching assistants work closely with teachers, undertaking responsibilities such as the preparation of lessons and working with small groups within the classroom. All this assistance allows the teacher to focus on teaching. With a Teaching Apprenticeship, you will carry out your role under the careful supervision of the classroom teacher. There will be activities that you will be supervising such as arts or reading to students, in addition, you may also help with trips and outings. When you progress to the ‘Advanced Apprenticeship’, you will find you will have more responsibility. You will help to plan lessons plus undertaking a variety of other learning activities. On occasions you will work side by side with the teacher providing valuable support. On other occasions you will be working alone with individual students or maybe small pockets of students.
